Chin Surgery

What should you know about a chin surgery? What happens during the first consultation?

Effeminacy chiefly comes from inside, but appearance and physical features greatly influence the general effect. A too wide, craggy chin gives a manly look for a woman’s face. In the course of the chin surgery the width and length of the chinbone can be reduced or an implant can be inserted to emphasize the contour of the chin.

During the first consultation, after and examination, our plastic surgeon discusses the necessary procedure(s) with you. He explains to you the course of the chin surgery, the risk factors, and shows you where your incisions will be located after the operation. At the consultation you have the chance to see the reference photos of the plastic surgeon.

Preparing for the chin surgery

Before the chin surgery you must go for a complete medical check-up. The reason for this is to find out whether you have any health problems that could have an influence on the chin surgery. All preliminary examinations are made at our Plastic Surgery Institute, so you do not need to queue up and wait in other health centers. In the course of the medical check-up laboratory tests and as occasion requires, other examinations (ECG, X-rays, etc.) are performed according to the plastic surgeon’s suggestion.

In certain cases we advise our patients to change their lifestyle in the days preceding the chin surgery. To facilitate proper recovery it is important that you do not smoke because nicotine slows down the process of regeneration and harmfully influences the healing of the wound. In the days before the chin surgery you should eat light foods, drink lots of fluids and take some vitamins (vitamin C, selenium, zinc). 2 weeks before the chin surgery you should avoid the use of aspirin, ginko biloba and other naturopathic products.

Chin surgery

Chin surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The plastic surgery procedure takes about an hour. The incision is made inside the mouth on the mucous membrane. When in the course of the surgery no chin implant is inserted, the plastic surgeon reduces the unnecessary parts of the chinbone after which he reshape the required form of the chin. In the case of chin augmentation silicon implant is inserted before the chinbone to change the contour of the chin, which is visible right after the operation. Due to inside incisions there are no visible scars on the face left after the chin surgery.

Techniques of the chin surgery

The technique of the operation means the choice and localization of the necessary incisions. In the course of the chin surgery the plastic surgeon makes an incision inside the mouth on the mucous membrane, then forms the place of the implant on the front surface of the chinbone and inserts the proper-sized chin implant. To achieve the perfect result and look we work with self-absorbing stitches, this way the scars heal much more aesthetically and we save you the possible inconveniences of stitch removal. After the chin surgery you need to wear a headband for a week to keep your head fixed and the implant placed in the right position.

Recovering and risks of a chin surgery

In our Plastic Surgery Institute we aim to make the period after the chin surgery as convenient as possible for you. After the chin augmentation you need to spend one night in our institute. During the first 2 weeks of the recovery all demanding physical activities must be avoided. The natural pain, the swelling, the bloodshot caused by the chin surgery and the sensitivity of the wound line will be eased after a few days, and then will fully pass.

For 5 days you should consume only fluids and mashed foods. Besides careful and regular teeth cleaning, you have to irrigate for sterilization in 3-4 hours every day, and after meals, with a Chlorhexamed solution for 10 days. You need to wear the headband day and night for 7 days. After 2 weeks you can return gradually to your previous life-style. After 3 weeks you can start to do light exercises. Sunbathing, the use of solarium and sauna must be avoided for 2 months. After the chin surgery you have to attend control examinations on the 7th and 14th day, and the 6th and 12th week.

Before the chin surgery we aim to filter out the possible risk factors with preliminary examinations, but even so unpredictable complications may occur. Chin surgeries count as a routine plastic surgery procedures and the occurrence of complications after the chin augmentation is extremely slight, but it cannot be excluded. These complications can be the following: infection, oedema and serous oedema, formation of the keloid scar.
