Thigh Lift

What should you know about a thigh lift surgery? What happens during the first consultation?

The thigh, similar to the other parts of the body, loses its tautness in time. During the thigh lift surgery the plastic surgeon removes the sagged epidermis and the superfluous adipose tissue, this way the thigh can regain its elasticity and its former shape.

During the first consultation, after an examination, our plastic surgeon discusses the necessary procedure(s). He explains to you the course of the thigh lift and shows you where your incisions will be located after the operation. He will also explain any possible risk factors. At the consultation you have the chance to see the reference photos of the plastic surgeon.

Preparing for the thigh lift

Before the thigh lift surgery you must go for a complete medical check-up. The reason for this is to reveal whether you have any health problems that could have an influence on the thigh lift. All preliminary examinations are made at our Plastic Surgery Institute, so you do not need to queue up and wait in other health centers. In the course of the medical check-up laboratory tests and as occasion requires, other examinations (ECG, X-rays, etc.) are performed according to the surgeon’s suggestion.

In certain cases we advise our patients to change their lifestyle in the days preceding the thigh lift. To facilitate the proper recovery it is important that you do not smoke because nicotine slows down the process of regeneration and harmfully influences the healing of the wound. In the days before the thigh lift surgery you should eat light foods, drink lots of fluids and take some vitamins (vitamin C, selenium, zinc). Two weeks before the thigh lift surgery you should avoid the use of aspirin, ginkgo biloba and other naturopathic products.

Thigh lift surgery

The increased adipose tissues of the thigh can be removed by liposuction without surgery, if the patient is less than 40 years old and has appropriate skin tone. After the age of 40, because of fluctuating bodyweight and substantial weight loss, the elasticity of the skin is reduced, the connective tissue under the skin is weakened and the skin of the inner thigh’s surface is protruded. So in this case correcting the shape of the thigh is only possible with thigh lift surgery. In the course of the thigh lift the plastic surgeon removes the superfluous epidermis with the adipose tissue. Tight lift is performed under general anesthesia. Depending of the type of tight lift, surgery takes 2-3 hours.

The secrets of the operating room - Techniques of thigh lift surgery

The technique of the operation means the choice and localization of the necessary incisions. The plastic surgeon makes an incision along the side of the pubic knoll, in the bikini line, and in the curve of the thigh so that the scars will stay completely hidden. These incisions ensure that an extensive or gross scar will not form, and that the scar will remain hidden inside the bikini line. Tight lift is performed under local and general anesthesia. If only liposuction is necessary the plastic surgeon extracts the superfluous adipose tissue through a 1 centimeter hidden incision by vacuum suction with the help of a thin drain measuring 4-6 mm. The liposuction is also performed under general anesthesia and takes 1.5-2 hours.

Recovering and risks of a thigh lift

In our Plastic Surgery Institute we aim to make the period after the thigh lift surgery as convenient as possible for you. In order to do this, a waterproof bandage is placed on the wounds, so you can even have a shower at home. After the thigh lift you must spend one night in our Plastic Surgery Institute. To achieve the perfect result and look we work with self-absorbing stitches, this way the scars heal much more aesthetically and we save you the possible inconveniences of stitch removal. After the thigh lift you must wear a special compression garment for 6 weeks. Our institute provides you with these items of clothing.

During the first 2 weeks of the recovery all demanding physical activities must be avoided especially long periods of standing, walking and straddling. After 3 weeks you can start to do light exercises. Sunbathing, the use of solarium and sauna must be avoided for 2 months. To facilitate the healing of the wound it is advisable to use scar creams. After the thigh lift you have to attend control examinations on the 7th and 14th day, and the 6th and 12th week.

Before the thigh lift surgery we aim to filter out the possible risk factors with preliminary examinations, but even so unpredictable complications may occur. Thigh lifts count as routine plastic procedures and the occurrence of complications after the thigh lift surgery is extremely slight, but it cannot be excluded. These complications can be the followings: infection, oedema and serous oedema, formation of the keloid scar.
